Seminar organized jointly by the Aalborg University Center for the Study of Migration and Diversity (CoMID); the Department of Philosophy and Learning; and the Department of Law. Organizers: Dr. Martin Bak Jørgensen, Associate Professor (CoMID); Dr. Jørn Sønderholm, Assistant Professor (Philosophy and Learning); Dr. Jesper Lindholm, Assistant Professor (Law). The seminar is targeted toward students and faculty with an interest in the above research areas, but is also open to the general public. Programme 9:00-9:15 Introduction by Martin Bak Jørgensen and Jesper Lindholm Aim and purpose of the initial part of seminar: To map out recent developments within the EU and Danish context of migration control and refugee protection taking into consideration legislative action and policy discussions, including the role and impact of academic research in the public debate. 9:15-10:15 Morten Kjærum, Director of the Fundamental Rights Agency of the EU in Vienna, Austria, and Adjunct Professor, Department of Law, Aalborg University: “Challenges for Migration and Refugee Protection in the EU –Taking stock and taking the lead”. Break 10:30- 11:30 Dr. Thomas Gammeltoft-Hansen, Research Director, Danish Institute for Human Rights: “Access to asylum: International Refugee Law and the Globalization of Migration Control – the role of privatization and outsourcing.” Lunch break 12:30- 13:15 Jesper Lindholm, Department of Law, Aalborg University: “A tale of Two Proposals: Legal Aspects of Migration Management amidst a Danish Election Campaign” Initial part of seminar comes to a close. 13:15-13:30 Introduction by Jørn Sønderholm Background and scope of the final part of seminar: Students and other members of the audience to be familiarized with the activities of the Danish Institute for Human Rights with a view to explore commonalities and leeway for cooperation in this regard. 13:30-14:30 Dr. Thomas Gammeltoft-Hansen, Research Director, Danish Institute for Human Rights: “General overview of the research activities of the Danish Institute for Human Rights”. 14:30-15:00 Q & A session. End of seminar.
