Beskrivelse

The preliminary methodological considerations for our AAU project at a centre in Northern Jutland for individuals with aquired late brain injury (SCN) are presented. Questions of how we consider, analyze and behave among individuals who have different styles in communication caused by syndromes and damages in the brain are presented and discussed. In order to examine communication as a matter for different style rather than normal versus deficit CMBN points to Integrational linguistics and practice studies as it is held that we create meaning through practice. Communication is defined as contextualizations by Roy Harris and fellow integrationists and is thus characterized as sense-making procedures and does not pressupose any decoding as it is held by traditional linguists. Sense-making requires an agent or a subject's integrational proficiency to an integrationist and is not a matter of how well a language e.g. is mastered or verbalized. This perspective seems promising to study individuals considered individuals with communicational problems.
