Turning back boats, offshore asylum processing, deaths at sea, temporary protection visas, and media campaigns designed to deter potential asylum seekers.

As Europe searches for answers to the current migrant and refugee crisis, the Australian asylum model is receiving increasing attention within Denmark and further afield as a potential part of the solution.

Some believe it to be an effective way to save lives, while others believe it ignores the fundamental rights of asylum seekers and refugees.

Join refugee law academics from Aarhus and Aalborg universities at this INTRALaw event. The program includes presentations and a panel discussion on the future prospects for the European response and the relevance of Australia's model to Europe.

Programme:

1.What is the ‘Australian Solution’? Nikolas Feith Tan, Aarhus University
2. Recent trends in Denmark’s approach to asylum seekers and refugees. Jesper Lindholm, Aalborg University
3. The EU response: legal challenges and prospects, Louise Halleskov Storgaard, Aarhus University
4. Panel discussion and questions.
