Beskrivelse

Oral presentation
Background The presentation and discussions are related to the following questions: In what ways does the current movements in disability research and practice reflect more fundamental economic, political and societal transformation processes, but also morality, values, and views of
society and human nature? The presentation ventures a synthesis between critical realistic and constructivist movements . It debates ways to ensure openness towards a wide range of approaches in the effort to understand and explain complex social and human problems and new concepts of rehabilitation.
Method: The data is based on data from the research project: "Views on human nature in social work" (www.menneskesyn.aau.dk), it analyses the historical development in the relation between welfare policies, knowledge and diagnostic tools, as well as ethnographic fieldwork that studies
the current view of human beeings, social problems and disability.
Results and conclusions We are currently seeing a shift in the concepts, requirements, and
expectations of the individual. Theese changes are causing the current practice to move away
from a concept of chronicity and disability, which has historically been significant to the
distribution of different kinds of support and social efforts. The presentation ventures an idea for
a synthesis between critical realistic and constructivist movements and raises a question of how
science can contribute to the construction of ontological models based on integrative, more
nuanced views on rehabilitation.
