Organisationsprofil
The Environmental Biotechnology group at Aalborg University consists of the following research groups:
- Biodegradation of Environmental Pollutants
- Biological Wastewater Treatment
- Biofouling and Biocorrosion
- Pathogens in the Environment
- Sediments
- Characterization of new enzymes
The Environmental Biotechnology Group at Aalborg University study microbial activity and diversity in complex microbial systems in relation to environmental problems and technologies. The research is based on fundamental environmental microbiology and ecology, and focus on solving environmental problems. Many investigations are carried out in close collaboration with environmental engineers and chemists. Important topics include biological wastewater treatment, biofouling and biocorrosion in industrial water systems, drinking water microbiology, biodegradation, and processes in sediments. Furthermore, new knowledge and new products are being developed using up to date biotechnological methods in collaboration with researchers from our Section for Biotechnology.
Around 25 persons are actively working in the Environmental Biotechnology Group sharing knowledge about environmental microbiology, methodologies and equipment. The Group has developed and employ a number of up to date methodologies, and posses major state-of-the-art equipment (see below), and has an extensive national and international collaboration. The Group is involved in several research projects granted from the Danish Technical Research Council (STVF), EU and other sources. The two largest programmes are presently the STVF supported framework programme Activity and Diversity in Complex Microbial Systems (CMS, 1998-2005), and Biofilms in Technical Systems (BioTekS, 2002-2005).
