Beskrivelse

BEAMING is a collaborate research project funded by the EU FP7 programme. The goal is to give people a real sense of physically being in a remote location with other people, and vice versa — without actually physically travelling. More specifically, a person (the visitor) should be able to "beam" via the internet into another location (the destination) such as a meeting, a conference, a classroom etc., where the person should now feel as if he/she is really there, is able to move around freely and interact naturally with the people who are physically present at the destination. Likewise, the people at the destination (the locals) should feel that this visitor is truly present and can be uniquely recognized as that given visitor. The modalities needed to establish such scenarios include vision and haptics while AAU primarily is involved in providing the audio necessary. Acoustical topics such as binaural techniques (3D sound), multi channel capturing and room simulation methods will be natural parts of the investigation, but also networking, data loss and transmission of room/environment parameters will be dealt with.
