Beskrivelse

In this project we investigate the relations between EIA and LCA with a view to developing a model that unites the advantages of EIA and LCA. The idea of the model development is to assess the impacts as close to reality as possible.

Strength and weakness of EIA and LCA has been pointed out in the literature (e.g. Jay 2007, Jeswani 2010) with the general conclusions that EIA should be more benefits beyond the specific project, and LCA should pay attention to human activities and spatial differentiation. This project approach these shortcomings by combining the advantages of EIA and LCA.

The project involves:
- Comparison of LCA and EIA in terms of procedures, system boundary, alternatives and impact category.
- Development of a new model with focus on system boundary and impact categories
- Testing of the model with a concrete case
- Investigation of the influence of these models on what meaning is created about environmental impacts and alternatives.
