The Flexible Drive Systems Laboratory

Projektdetaljer

Beskrivelse

To encourage student interest for power electronics and electrical drives a project to build a new modern and attractive laboratory was undertaken by the Department in september 1998. Modern technology for digital control is used, such as dSPACE controllers. Since the lab is intended to cover a broad range of electrical drives and control techniques it was called the Flexible Drives Systems Laboratory - FDSL. FDSL offers three identical drive systems, each controlled by the powerful DS1103 PPC RISC/DSP controller from dSPACE. Standard induction machines are used for test motors and loading is by Siemens torque controlled PMSM drives, allowing various loading torque characteristics to be achieved. The most relevant features are as follows : * Motorola PowerPC 604e running at 333 MHz * slave DSP TI's TMS320F240 Subsystem * 16 ch. ADC-16 bit-4 µs ( 10 V * 4 ch. ADC-12 bit-800 ns ( 10V * 8 ch. DAC-14 bit-6 µs ( 10 V * incremental Encoder Interface -7 channels * 32 digital I/O lines, programmable in 8-bit groups * TDE software development tool. The power capabilities of the systems are: * 2.2 kW/400V/1420 rpm IM (motoring) * 9.2 kW/400V/4500 rpm/20Nm PMSM (loading). The powerful and flexible structure of the system allows several applications to be developed here including both scalar, vector and sensorless control of ac motors. All applications are developed using Simulink environment requiring no hand-written code. The off-line Simulink simulations may now be implemented on a real-time frame by simply adding some specific blocks from Real Time Interface (RTI) Simulink library that connects the physical I/O of the system to the RISC/DSP core. All the code generation and downloading tasks are performed automatically. The students use many off-line computer simulators including: Pspice, Saber, Simulink (incl. Power Systems Blockset) and they solve many power electronics and drives exercises using them. Yet they did not get the feeling of a real-time system. Now, by using FDSL they have the chance to test "live" their control strategies in very short time. Thus we could notice that they become more attracted to electrical drives related courses. The project was generously co-sponsored by Danfoss Drives A/S and ABB Motor A/S.
