WINDICE: Reliable prediction of icing on wind turbines and icing-induced power loss (Ministeriet for Forskning, Innovation og Videregående Uddannelser, 1355-00120B)

This project will investigate icing on wind turbines and icing-induced production loss by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which will be coupled with Vattenfall’s numerical weather prediction models. Experimental data from climatic wind tunnels or wind farm will be used to validate the model. Based on the validated CFD model, sensitivity analysis will be done to identify the key parameters and to derive an engineering model, which will be used for spatial planning and operation optimization.
