This paper proposes a multi-inputs versatile matrix converter (VMC) to integrate various energy resources and energy storages to a power grid. The VMC is developed based on a traditional indirect matrix converter (IMC) and a nineswitch converter. The six input terminals provide flexibility for the connection of two three-phase AC sources or one threephase AC and three DC sources, which make it possible to integrate both DC and AC renewable sources in a single gridtied power electronics interface. The control and modulation
schemes are proposed to extract the commanded current from the input AC/DC sources to the network and to guarantee high quality DC/AC inputs and AC output current waveforms with unity power factors. The proposed modulation scheme for sinusoidal outputs has been mathematically proved. The simulation and experimental results for two applications are provided to validate the effectiveness of the control and modulation schemes for the proposed VMC.
