Abstract

Breakwaters belong generally to the more expensive part of port and coastal protection structures. The fact that the main function of breakwaters is to provide shelter for wave action defines automatically the two main problems related to breakwater engineering, namely construction in often very harsh environments with underwater implications, and the variability and uncertainty related to the wave loadings during service life.
