Abstract

The wave agitation in the port and at the entrance to the port depends on the length of the outer part of the breakwater (west of the spur breakwater) and on the type of structure, e.g. caissons or rubble mound. In the present study is investigated the wave field around a rubble mound head armoured with 64 m3 concrete cubes.

Parallel to the present tests are studied the wave field around a caisson solution at CEDEX, Madrid. The two sets of results should be directly comparable and should be used for calibration of a numerical wave agitation model covering not only the port entrance but the whole port basin and berths. The calibrated numerical model can then be used for the study of the optimum length and type of the outer breakwater structure.
