    Abstract

Until recently, research on methods of structural analysis centered on stress singularities, geometric nonlinearities etc., rather than material nonlinearities. In most cases, structural analysis therefore entailed application of classic constitutive models like linear elasticity or ideal plasticity. Thus, structural analysis such as finite element methods and boundary element methods is a well-developed field in itself. But, a closer connection to modern material modeling is needed in order to ensure an optimal exploitation of the resources.
