CINS Lectures focusing on cognitive functions: Professor Trewor Robbins & Professor Barbara Sahakian It is a great pleasure to invite you to two distinct lectures given by two world leading neuropsychologists, Professor Trewor Robbins and Professor Barbara Sahakian. Some of their outstanding contributions to neuroscience and clinical neuropsychology appear from the attached BIOSKETCH-es. Barbara Sahakian and Trevor Robbins are, among others, inventors of the CANTAB and EMOTICOM computerised neuropsychological tests widely used around the world – and at the Mental Health Centres in the Capital Region of Denmark. In 2014 Professor Trewor Robbins shared the most valuable prize in neuroscience, the ‘Brain Prize’ of the Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Foundation, with two other scientists, Stanislas Dehaene and Giacomo Rizzolatti, for ‘their pioneering research on higher brain mechanisms underpinning such complex human functions as literacy, numeracy, motivated behaviour and social cognition, and for their efforts to understand cognitive and behavioural disorders’. Psychology (and Head of Department) at the University of Cambridge, from October 2002. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society (1990), the Academy of Medical Sciences (2000), and the Royal Society (2005). He received the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award for 2011 from the American Psychological Association. He has published about 750 full papers, with an H index of about 164. He has co-edited eight books, most recently Translational Neuropsychopharmacology (Springer, 2016). Trevor directs the MRC/Wellcome Trust-funded ‘Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute’, the mission of which is to enhance translation from basic to clinical neuroscience. His interest in translation began with his co-invention of the CANTAB computerized neuropsychological battery, which is currently used in over 700 institutes and clinical centres world-wide. He stepped down as President of the British Neuroscience Association in 2011 and was made a CBE in the New Year’s Honours list of the U.K. in 2012. In 2014 he shared the ‘Brain Prize’ of the Grete Lundbeck European Brain Research Foundation, the most valuable in neuroscience and in 2015 he received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” of the British Association for Psychopharmacology’. Barbara J Sahakian Barbara J Sahakian is Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Cambridge Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural and Clinical Neuroscience Institute. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a Member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Brain Research. Her fields of interest are neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, psychopharmacology, neuroimaging and neuroethics. She is co-inventor of the Cambridge Cognition CANTAB and EMOTICOM computerised neuropsychological tests (www.cambridgecognition.com). She is also co-inventor of the PEAK Advanced Training Plan and Wizard Memory game (www.peak.net). She has co-authored two popular science books 'Sex, Lies & Brain Scans' (Oxford University Press, 2017), which was recently reviewed in Nature, and 'Bad Moves' (OUP, 2013).
