Tutorial: The Internet of Energy - The Building Block for the Future Smart Grids

Activity: Talks and presentationsTalks and presentations in private or public companies

Description

The world is changing rapidly thanks to the technology revolution having an enormous impact on our daily lives. In fact, in conjunction with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), Internet of Things (IoT) provides new intelligent and automated solutions and functionalities which streamline processes, enhance comfort and reduce energy consumption for the consumers.
The distributed, wireless smart sensors and meters coupled with real-time energy consumption can collect, monitor and deliver data through user-friendly interfaces to improve energy-aware decision-making.
If there is an adaptation on the behavior of the prosumers’ devices based on the information they receive such as electricity price, then energy consuming/producing devices will not be black boxes but can be adopted accordingly instead.
The tutorial allows unlocking a number of technical issues and identifies latest challenges and barriers that nowadays block the global adoption of IoT in energy ecosystems.
Insights into the important topics in the field of Internet of Energy (IoE) such as smart metering and smart buildings, energy management systems (EMS), cyber-physical systems, IoT sensors, and smart devices networks and interoperability are provided.
Furthermore, projects and real use cases of IoE are presented.
