Organisation profile

The research unit for the Department of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy, Aalborg University Hospital, has its primary research foci in the field of musculoskeletal function, physical activity, training and rehabilitation, and the importance of these factors for patients' functional capacity, activity level and quality of life.

The purpose of the research is for patients to receive the best possible treatment on an evidence-based basis in relation to physiotherapy and occupational therapy tasks as examination and diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation. The research in the Department will contribute to establish effective, coherent and coordinated courses of treatment and rehabilitation across the sectors. Involvement of patients and collaborators in research activities is important to achieve this. Our aim is that the research-based knowledge obtained should contribute to the development of clinical practice to improve function and the ability to manage health challenges in life, and thereby improve the quality of life of the patients.

Research within the area of physiotherapy and occupational therapy is often multidisciplinary and contributes to improving the overall patient course. The research is focused on strengthening research-based knowledge and subsequent implementation of research results in clinical practices. The research unit is involved in teaching and supervision at several study programmes at Aalborg University.
