Department of Civil Engineering
Organisation profile
Head of Department
Peter Frigaard
The research fields of the Department are centred on disciplines that form the engineering and scientific basis for the development of buildings, comprising load-bearing structures and building services as well as bridge structures and other civil engineering structures. Furthermore, hydraulic and hydrological problems in relation to environmental plants and projects, physical geography mainly aimed at environmental and resource issues, and geotechnical and flow-mechanical problems in civil engineering structures such as pipelines, harbour and canal structures, offshore structures, wind turbines and wave energy plants are central fields for the Department.
The teaching activities of the Department are primarily related to the BSc programmes in Building Technology and Civil Engineering and the MSc programmes in Structural Engineering, Management in the Building Industry, Water and Environment, Indoor Environmental Technology, and the MSc programme in Architecture and Design. The study programmes are administered by the student-staff committees for Civil Engineering and Architecture and Design, respectively.
Further, the international programmes Master of Science Programme in Indoor Environmental Engineering and a Master of Science Programme in Civil Engineering are offered, where teaching in English is required. Also, a Master Programme in Wind Energy and a Master Programme in Information Technology, Industrial IT are offered. The Department contributes to PhD programmes for all the subject areas, which are covered by the Department.
Information of all study programmes offered at Aalborg University as well as information of all rules of admission and other requirements can be seen from the Study Programme Guide (so far, in Danish only).
