Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering
Organisation profile
FIELDS OF ACTIVITY
The present version of Department of Life Sciences was founded January 1, 2001 by inclusion of The Environmental Engineering Laboratory into the former Department of Life Sciences. The Department was also designated to house a development of studies and research within chemistry.
By this expansion, The Department of Life Sciences ended up being three times larger than before and was located at to different addresses: Sohngaardsholmsvej 49 and 57.
To day the Department employs 110 persons divided almost equally between technicians, PhD students, Post.Docs. and tenured scientific staff.
The Department is organised in one administrative unit dealing with administration and IT and 2 sections:
- Section of Chemistry
- Section of Chemical Engineering (Esbjerg)
- Section of Environmental Engineering
- Section for Sustainable Biotechnology (Copenhagen)
TEACHING
The Department is now responsible for the basic education (Semester 1-2) within the areas of the institute and the educations to the bachelor level (Semester 3-5) within the field of life sciences.
The Department holds the responsibility for three specialisations to the MSc. level:
-
Biotechnology
-
Technical Chemistry
-
Environmental Engineering.
The Department is also responsible for supervision of PhD students within these fields.
Five candidates at the bachelor level and 60 candidates at the master level are typically graduated each year.
