Organisation profile

Near-Field Optics

Near-Field Optics has been a major research area at the institute since 1993. The present studies are focussed on experimental scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) investigations of novel optical components that include: photonic bandgab materials, quantum-dot structures, and quasi-phase-matching crystals. Both linear and nonlinear (second-harmonic) imaging is carried out with near- and far-field optical imaging techniques. Other studies are aimed at increasing our insight into the underlying mechanisms involved in both linear and nonlinear near-field optical imaging.
