Organisation profile

Head of section
Erik Gydesen Søgaard

The section is physically located on the AAU campus in Esbjerg. The section conducts research and teaching within several areas of chemical engineering and oil and gas technology. Our research provides important support to both local, national, and international companies, and the section has a long and strong tradition for industrial cooperations. Don't hessitate to contact if you have questions or enquireries.

Research headlines:

  • Energy: Reservoir engineering, offshore processes, and enhanced oil recovery through microorganisms, supercritical biomass conversion to biofuels, dye synthesized solar cells (DSSC)
  • Environmental engineering: Remediation of soil and groundwater through in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), industrial wastewater treatment through advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), degradation of persistant organic pollutants (POPs), micropollutant removal.
  • Material science: Polymers and plastics, aluminium and other metals, composites, ceramic materials, titanium dioxide coatings for self cleaning surfaces, brake pads
  • Advanced image analysisfordiagnostics, chemometrics for multivariate data analysis, applied physics using electron microscopy and xray diffraction analysis

Along with the research, we are responsible for the majority of courses and supervision in the studies for diploma engineer in chemistry and biotechnology and the masters in chemical engineering and oil and gas technology as managed by the k-study board, Aalborg University.
