Research and teaching acitvitites:

  • Hydraulic and hydrological problems in relation to environmental plants and projects.
  • Physical geography mainly aimed at environmental and resource issues.
  • Geotechnical and flow-mechanical problems in civil engineering structures such as pipelines, harbour and canal structures, offshore structures, wind turbines and wave energy plants.

Ongoing research of the section is concentrated on:

  • Rain and sewage discharge from urban areas.
  • Rain disharge from highways. 
  • Uncertainty analysis for different forms of environmental simulation - for example ground water modelling.
  • Analysis of wind-generated waves - including determination of wave loading on harbour and offshore structures, and stability analyses of breakwater structures.
  • Investigation of the efficiency of different wave energy plants - for examle Wave Dragon and Wave Star (Nissum Bredning), SSG (Stavanger), and Aqua Buoy (Portugal).
  • Scour protection and run-up on offshore wind turbines.
