Research within this theme is focused on innovation and industrial dynamics in the context of economic transformation. It is positioned in the intersection between two established but often separate traditions: innovation studies and development studies and starts from the view that learning and innovation lies at the heart of economic development. Research in this theme is focused on processes and outcomes of innovation capability building at the micro, meso and macro level. Key to this work is the aim to understand how domestic and global economic and institutional settings shape learning and innovation capabilities. Key sub-themes within this research area are: (a) Global Interaction and Local Capability Formation, (b) New Actors and Strategies in Innovation and Development, (c) Innovation and Green Transformations, and (d) Inclusive Innovation.
