This project will be investigating downlink multiple access techniques for beyond 3G and 4G mobile communication systems. According to the "Survey on world wide research on 4G air interface concepts" from December 2004, there are many indicators that make an OFDM-based scheme a strong candidate as multiple access technique for the next generation of downlink receivers. SISO-OFDM-based receiver structures will be studied. Their performance as well as robustness in different channel conditions will be taken into consideration. A threefold strategy will be adopted: results will be obtained through survey of already achieved results by other researchers, theoretical derivations and finally through Monte Carlo simulations. Other multiple access techniques might also be studied, such as advanced receiver design for OFDMA or MC-CDMA. The impact of advanced antenna technology (MIMO) on some of these techniques might also be taken into the study. Finally identifying critical issues related to hardware implementation of the studied concepts has to be treated to some extend. (Christian Rom, Troels B. Sørensen, Preben E.
