Description

The movement pattern of users has a significant impact on performance of mobile and wireless systems. The mobility model defines how the nodes move within the network. A variety of models have been proposed. Mobility models used for cellular systems should provide realistic values for such parameters as the cell residence time, number of handoffs during a call, etc. In ad hoc networks the emphasis is shifted and other issues become important. These issues are connectivity of a network and path duration (also called longevity of routes). The project focuses on investigation of the probability of having a fully connected mobile ad hoc network considering different mobility models. By analitical means a closed form expression for the probability was derived for the random direction mobility model. In the next phase, the project will extend the results including other models and address the problem of estimation of a path duration. (Tatiana Madsen)
