Description

This project focuses on sparse sampling techniques for multi-mode receivers dedicated for varying interference environment. Today, wireless communication devices are designed with to achieve 'instant' communication. It means, that the main aim is to transmit big amounts of data in a very short time. This approach has led to the development of various highly advanced communication standards multi-mode terminals are required to ensure support for all these standards.



According to the traditional Nyquist-Shannon theorem, sampling rate must be at least twice higher than the highest frequency in the sampled signal. Unfortunately this approach leads to a very high power consumption. Fortunately a new way of signal acquisition, called compressive sampling, has been proposed.



The basic philosophy is to sample close to the information rate of the signal, rather than the Nyquist Rate, without recourse to the adaptive sampling. This project applies the compressive sampling theorem in multi-mode transceivers, with the overall aim to reduce the power consumption and to improve performance.
