PlaceME: Place, Mediated Discourse and Embodied Interaction

Project Details

Description

An emerging area of interdisciplinary research is the study of how embodied and virtual social actors communicate, interact and coordinate their activities in complex multimodal environments and semiotic spaces. Extensive studies have already been conducted of talk and conversation, of workplaces, of social practices, of multimodality, of social semiotics, of participatory design, and of communities of practice. This research project brings together a variety of approaches to undertake the analysis of complex environments with multiple embodied actors acting and interacting in and through diverse materialities, mobilities, resources, histories, cultures and tools.
