Weak grid solution for wind power plants

Project Details

Description

With the increasing amount of power electronics converter-connected renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar panels connected to the electrical grid, the share of traditional synchronous generators (SG) is significantly decreasing. To ensure that the grid can still be operated in a secure and stable manner without the short circuit power and inertia, which have traditionally been provided by SGs, grid forming services must be provided either by the converter connected production units or by dedicated grid stabilizing devices. Preliminary highly simplified research results indicate that it is advantageous to control the turbines as grid forming converters, but there are many aspects that are not yet completely covered. The purpose of the project is to develop solutions which can be integrated into actual wind turbines with minimal additional hardware costs.
