This paper presents capacity dimensioning for a hypothetical distribution network in the Danish municipality of Aalborg. The number of customers in need for a better service level and the continuous increase in network traffic makes it harder for ISPs to deliver high levels of service to their customers. This paper starts by defining three levels of services, together with traffic demands based on research of traffic distribution and generation in networks. Calculations for network dimension are then calculated. The results from the dimensioning are used to compare different network topologies and protection methods against the different levels of service. A protection method for mesh networks called p-cycles was analyzed in more detail than the other methods, since previous research showed promising results for P-cycles. The papers outcome is a recommended topology and protection method for the three levels of service
