Abstract
Highlights
•An active absorption system for wavemakers has been developed.
•The theory for flush mounted gauges has been extended to cover also small gaps.
•The new system has been validated in a wave flume with wavemakers in both ends.
•A generation and absorption procedure for highly non-linear waves has been given.
•Results show that superharmonics can be well absorbed by the new absorption system.
