Abstract
Cognitive radio is much talked as solution to limited spectrum resource. Provisions for deployment of cognitive radio have already been made in most of the EU countries, USA and Canada. It has not yet been introduced in India. This paper describes the frequency allocation for different services in Indian national frequency allocation plan. and frequency bands in which cognitive radio can be permitted in India. This paper gives an overview about what initiatives should be taken by the regulator to introduce cognitive radio in India. The paper concludes that UHF band (300 MHz-3 GHz) is good candidate for cognitive radio system.
