Abstract
The paper gives an introduction to Dembski's method for deciding whether a phenomenon is due to law, chance or design. It explains in detail the problem of phenomena of extremely small probability, which may be due to either chance or design. A decision for chance may be a false negative, and a decision for design might be a false positive. Dembski's claim, that his method will never give false positives, is evaluated.
