Abstract

This paper proposes a new way of approaching multi-objective optimization (MOO) in the architectural design process. Instead of focusing on performance-based optimization, this approach aims to empower the designer to shift between performance-based and form-based design evaluation, and to strive for an informed and integrated design process. This paper will present a GUI that integrates with existing multi-objective search algorithms and will allow the designer to navigate and explore the Pareto set of design solutions in an intuitive way, also when more than 3 objectives are computed, and to assess, for each solution of the Pareto front, the sensitivity of the geometric variables over each performance objective. The GUI will connect to an existing parametric modelling environment Grasshopper, to take advantage of the inherent explorative potential of the parametric design model.
