    Abstract

Centre for Urban Policy, Urban Renewal and Welfare is a 'centre-without-walls' established at SBI as a link between research at sector research institutes and universities. This anthology presents the main outlines of the Centre's research into topical trends in urban development, segregation, urban architecture, urban governance and welfare. The anthology makes contributions based on research to the urban policy debate which was opened by the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs in the spring of 1999. The anthology is primarily intended for politicians and civil servants at government or municipal levels that are - or will become - involved in shaping urban policy. But it is also intended as a contribution to theoretical urban research at institutes of higher education.
