Abstract

In the process of lowering cost of energy of power generated by wind turbines,
some focus has been drawn towards fault detection and isolation and as well as fault tolerant control of wind turbines with the purpose of increasing reliability and availability of the wind turbines. Most modern wind turbine projects are organized in wind farms, in which controllers are available at wind farm level as well in the individual wind turbines. Different information are available at these levels, and the information is as well sampled with different sample frequencies.
A benchmark model for wind farm fault detection and isolation and fault tolerant control has previously been proposed. Based on this model, and international competition on wind farm FDI was organized. The contributions were presented at the IFAC World Congress 2014. In this paper the top three contributions to this competition are shortly introduced and evaluated.
