Abstract

Survey of the different Adapative Anntenna (AA) deployment options in release 4 of the UMTS FDD standard. The first part considers the different choices for the use of AAs at the Node B; the second discusses the use of AAs at the UE; and finally, the third addresses the options for the joint utilisation of AAs both at the Node B and the UE as means to enable multiple input multiple output (MIMO) operation within the current UMTS specifications.
