Abstract

Sidewalk [Inter] Ruptions is an auto ethnographic photo essay that investigates methods for uncovering and conveying the space of the street, as well as understanding the sidewalk as a punctuated space of negotiation and experience. Inspired by the challenge of moving on some sidewalks and the easy flow of others, this book project explores the mindful presence of interruptions as possibilities to sense and experience more. The materials of the street and sidewalk tell stories if we are open to hearing – understanding the [inter]ruption as a break in flow that allows for presence.
