Academy for Migration Studies in Denmark (AMID)

The last two centuries have witnessed a continuous increase in the number of persons and groups of persons moving from one locality to another - across borders, towards citites, between regions. These migratory processes and their consequences form the thematic framework for AMID and include the following thematic foci: Schooling and educational policies; the labour market; social problems and social work; spatial questions; cultural strategies.

On the background of the thematic framework the Academy will give priority to the following five research areas (each area containing empirical as well as theoretical dimensions, and perspectives informed by host societies as well as migrant actions and perceptions). AMID research projects are listed under the research areas. Some projects are listed under more than one area:

Area 1
Causes, forms of organization, and consequences of mobility and migration in the context of globalization and Europeanization, and international migration regimes.

Area 2
The reception of immigrants, the politics of integration and acculturation, conditions for citizenship, and political participation.

Area 3
Issues related to the labour market, ethnic business, educational resources and social conditions (e.g. residential).

Area 4
Issues related to public debates and the media, mutual stereotyping, cultural encounters and forms of representation of Self and Other.

Area 5
The politics of identity, cultural strategies, ethnic networking and transnational citizenship.
