Description: Practice theory offers an alternative to other theoretical and methodological approaches presented during this course in that the unit of analysis is social practices rather than social actors. Practice theory shares with actor-network approaches a strong interest in human-object relations. However, focus is not on the actors as such, but on social practices and how they are performed in everyday life. The central question addressed in the lecture is how to approach and study food related issues from an everyday practice perspective: 1) how can we use practice theory to conceptualize issues of agency and change in food systems? 2) how can we study everyday food practices and how they change, or may be changed?
