Beskrivelse

TRACK 11. INTERNATIONAL COMPARATIVE PLANNING Track chair: Dr. Dominic Stead, Delft University of Technology (NL) Co-chair: Dr. Daniel Galland, Aalborg University (DK) ‘Comparative planning’ is a frequently encountered term in planning education and research but is subject to quite different interpretations and only poorly grounded in theory. With this in mind, this track aims to provide a forum for discussing the merits of different theories and methods that can be used to examine and compare planning objectives, concepts, cultures, policies and/or practices internationally. The track welcomes theoretical, methodological and/or empirical contributions related to research or teaching on comparative planning. In line with the main theme of the congress we would prefer contributions that aim at co-evolving comparative research in particular. But possible themes could also include comparative research design (either qualitative or quantitative), policy analysis, policy transfer, institutional analysis and lesson drawing related to international studies of planning. Papers, which consider one or more of the following dimensions are particularly encouraged: - contributing to the development of theories on comparative planning; - offering evaluations of comparative research methods; - using conceptual heuristics to interpret practice; - drawing, deriving or disseminating lessons from international cases; - presenting comparative empirical research grounded in theory; - deriving the practical implications and transferability of lessons from comparative policy research.
