Four main topics are covered on the two days of the course:Bibliometric data sources and data collection: The strengths and weaknesses of different bibliometric data sources will be discussed, considering Web of Science, Scopus, Dimensions, PubMed and some other data sources. Strategies for bibliometric data collection will be discussed as well.
Visualization of Science: Participants will be introduced into the main techniques for visualizing science. These techniques include building co-authorship, citation and term maps. Special attention is paid to applications in research evaluation and research management contexts. The core algorithms used by the VOSviewer software tool, including the text mining algorithms for creating term maps, will be discussed as well.
AIDA case studies: During the course, some of the most important AIDA case studies, carried out at TU Delft, will be introduced, and possible ways to replicate and interpret the maps will be discussed interactively.
Practical assignments: The assignments aim to provide hands-on experience to the participants in working with the VOSviewer and CitNetExplorer applications to make bibliometric visualisations.
