A joint workshop organised by the Contemporary South Asian Studies Programme at the University of Oxford and the Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies at the University of Warsaw, hosted by Wolfson College and the Contemporary South Asian Studies Programme University of Oxford. Click here for programme. 4 – 5 March 2011 Global_India Dr. Harsh Pant of King’s College, London, workshop convenor Kate Sullivan, Dr Jakub Zajaczkowski, Centre for Contemporary India Research and Studies, University of Warsaw and Programme Director Professor Barbara Harriss-White This vibrant multi-disciplinary workshop brought together scholars from across Europe and India to exchange research and ideas on the broad theme of an increasingly ‘global India’ and to consider both the impact of globalisation upon India and India’s growing influence on the future of globalisation. Covering diverse topics such as economic citizenship, migration, emerging powers, regional cooperation and competition, regional geo-strategy, political transitions and land-grabbing, the papers explored how Indian society and the Indian state are responding to the forces of globalisation in diverse and complex ways, and reciprocally, how India is making an increasing mark on global structures and society. The workshop also featured a stimulating public lecture by M. Madhavan Nambiar, Rtd. Sec., Ministry of Civil Aviation, who spoke on Public-Private Partnerships and Airport Infrastructure Development in India.
