Arrangement of Symposia on ICSEI - International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement, 2023.
Titel: A Danish Perspective on Evaluation and Monitoring for High Quality ECECs.
Symposia abstract: In Denmark, ECEC are expected to promote children's wellbeing, learning, development, and formation by creating safe and pedagogical learning environment where play, and children's perspectives are essential. Nevertheless, social inequality, marginalization, and variation in quality between ECEC centers still challenge the aim of high-quality learning environments for all children. Hence, a growing interest is seen in developing approaches and tools for quality monitoring and evaluation and finding ways to make these essential components of both external and internal accountability and improvement practices. In the symposia different perspectives on this work will be presented. Firstly, the Danish national policy on decentralized monitoring of quality in ECEC, and support of local authorities will be introduced. Secondly, experiences and research related to the use of observation as a tool for identifying ECEC practices of high quality as well as areas for further improvement will be presented. Finally, experiences and research from the work with the development and implementation of a collaborative approach to building evaluative capacity in ECEC will be presented. The symposia aim to encourage dialogue on challenges and potentials evaluating and monitoring ECEC quality cross countries and settings; to stimulate further thinking about quality improvement and to explore how different countries put in place this important task.
