Among scholars and the general public there is a consensus that knowledge is a key attribute for performance in modern societies and economies. There are several ways of perceiving and categorizing types of knowledge.

The most commonly discussed in the traditional media is the ‘know-what’ type, which is concerned with facts and data. Nevertheless, there are other equally important types, such as the know-how, know-why and know-who. Knowledge can also have a more implicit or explicit character, which is entitled by academics as tacit and codified knowledge, respectively.

This lecture will discuss issues related to knowledge in the context of organizations, change and innovation. Underlying this discussion is an ongoing research project that investigates, in broad terms, ‘how does knowledge and capabilities influence processes of entering new markets?’ This research is based on empirical investigation of the wind power sector.
