Beskrivelse

Invited keynote presentation

In this presentation, Prof. David Budtz Pedersen takes a deeper dive into how best to optimize the societal impact of research by developing a new “impact life cycle approach” that includes end-to-end studies of peer review, research evaluation, team construction, research management and co-creation across academia and society. Accelerating the societal impact of research has been a key issue in science – at least since Francis Bacon famously stated that basic research is the prerequisite of society (Bacon 1620). But research on how best to stimulate impact, let alone optimize impact is a nascent area of study. New insights and models have shifted the focus away from simple linear models of impact to seeing impact as a virtuous cycle with many feedback loops to inform adaptation and implementation. Given both the complexity of impact and the research and innovation ecosystem within which we are trying to effect change, we need to take both a bottom-up and top-down approach to effect responsible change.
