In this conference paper, I investigate how one particular decision is made on an energy renovation project which relates to reducing energy consumption in a social housing estate. The decision regards mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery which can have a great impact on heat consumption. In the course of project design, discussions were made about which kind of ventilation system would be the "best" for the tenants. Tenants were presented with various arguments for and against two different systems, and in these situations, physical objects such as ventilation units "convinced" the tenants of the "right" choice.
