Beskrivelse
Recent trends in mental health issues among youth have seen the emergence of new forms of marginalization in which mental health issues, such as stress, anxiety, depression and a general lack of well-being, are no longer predominantly present among traditionally marginalized groups but are widespread throughout multiple groups of young people. These developments calls for new narratives in the ways in which we understand youth health and well-being. In this lecture, we will use an extensive empirical study done among adolescents in Denmark to discuss, and critically examine, how youth mental can be understood through the lenses of contemporary social theories and social diagnosis of pathologies – particularly in relation to achievement demands, gender and social media.
