Complete Stellar Collapse: unusual star system proves that stars can die quietly

Beskrivelse

Astrophysicists from the University of Copenhagen's Niels Bohr Institute, including postdoc Alejandro Vigna-Gómez, have provided evidence that massive stars can completely collapse into black holes without a supernova explosion. This research is linked to the phenomenon of disappearing stars. "We believe that the core of a star can collapse under its own weight...the collapse continues until the star becomes a black hole," says Vigna-Gómez. Thomas M. Tauris from Aalborg University has, together with others, contributed to the research. (Summary provided by Infomedia). Sources:BIOENGINEER.ORG, 21-05-2024Mirage news, 21-05-2024Scienmag, 21-05-2024
