Increased medication use for years can be an early sign of common bowel disease

Dr. Linéa Bonfils and her team from Aalborg University have conducted a study revealing that individuals with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) show a significant increase in the use of various prescription medications years before they are diagnosed with IBD. The study, which analysed a decade's worth of data from 2005 to 2018, found that this trend was evident in 12 out of 14 major medication groups and was most noticeable in patients with Crohn's disease. The authors suggest that monitoring medication usage patterns could potentially help in the early identification of IBD.(Summary provided by Infomedia) Sources:Knowridge Science Report, 20-01-2024Medical Xpress, 19-01-2024Merck Manuals,, 19-01-2024
