Niels Eriksen, a biochemist at Aalborg University, has suggested feeding farm insects with waste from the beer industry in a paper published in Applied Entomology. For every one of the 185 billion litres of beer consumed globally every year, three to ten litres of waste is produced. He has tested how black soldier fly larvae thrive when fed beer waste, chicken feed or a mixture.
