According to new research from New York University and Aalborg University, people over the age of 40 who take antibiotics are almost 50% more likely to develop Crohn's disease or colitis. With each subsequent dose, the rate increases by around 15%. Researchers from New York University and Aalborg University concluded that a 40-year-old person who has taken antibiotics five times or more is twice as likely to develop inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), compared to someone who has not.
